The Back Panel approach to retrofitting a motor control center.
A Back Panel retrofit has all the same components of a standard retrofit assembled to a replacement back panel. The panel is then installed on-site and reconnected to the field wiring and stab assembly of the unit.

Is your customer facing limited resources and a diminished budget, but still owns the same aging equipment?
Recently EWC has witnessed many companies limiting the use of sub-contractors and increasing their reliance on internal employees. This on-site Back Panel retrofit is a perfect solution for those customers who want their staff to have a more hands-on approach to upgrading the equipment.

Sample Back Panel Retrofit
Retrofitting a motor control center has always been a smart, cost-effective choice; now with the ‘Back Panel’ approach you can further minimize downtime to just a few hours in most cases.
When is a Back Panel retrofit right for you?
1. When a complete replacement bucket is not available. Using a Back Panel in the existing bucket will allow for a successful retrofit.
  • Using the existing buckets is not an option because they are still in use and cannot be taken out of service to complete a standard retrofit.
  • ‘Seed’ buckets are not available or are too expensive. Seed buckets allow, for example, 6 units of 24 to be changed out, then the next 6 until the cycle is complete.
2. When no shut down is scheduled. Back Panel assemblies can be inventoried on-site for installation by on-site personnel during the next unanticipated shut down.

3. When the customer wants to utilize on-site staff for installation.

4. When the budget doesn’t allow for a completely new structure, a retrofit is a cost-effective choice.

Back Panel Benefits

  • Engineering Expertise — Resolve design deficiencies and safety issues
  • Reliability —  New components will result in fewer breakdowns
  • Minimize Downtime —  Back Panel retrofit can be replaced on-site in just a few hours
  • On-site Installation —  Allows qualified staff to contribute
  • Cost-effective —  Significantly lower cost to retrofit versus new MCC installation

Multiple Back Panel Retrofits
