You do have options when it comes to maintaining your motor control center. #1 Retrofit the MCC bucket with NEW components.
#2 Replacethe entire MCC with a new structure and new buckets. #3 Don't do anything and live with the old, unreliable MCC.
#1 Don't do anything... Sure, now it's the least expensive option, however you are still facing the uncertainty of reduced reliability, which can lead to excessive downtime.
Safety remains a concern if operating handles don't function and overload resets are missing.
Missing or out-of-date schematics make it difficult to troubleshoot electrical failures.
Ultimately this could be your most costly choice.
Safety concerns still exist if out of date MCCs remain in use.
#2 Replace the old MCC with a new one. New motor control centers can be prohibitively expensive.
Costs include consultants, new engineering design drawings, removing the old structures, installing the new structures, new field wiring and perhaps most importantly weeks of lost production time while the replacement is configured and installed.
#3 Retrofit the MCC Obviously this is our favorite choice but for good, logical reasons you can believe in and commit your budget to.
After 20 or 30 years the electrical devices are worn out and used up. However, the structure and the horizontal and vertical bus remain in good condition. As well as the unit sheet metal and stab assembly are still in good condition too. This is all good news because retrofitting your customers MCC will extend the useful life another 20 to 30 years.
Retrofitting improves reliability - with NEW components. Retrofitting reduces downtime - it's easy to install. We provide new schematics - this ensures easy troubleshooting in the future. We resolve safety issues and design deficiencies - because we have the expertise to design in the right components and test every retrofitted unit in a test structure before it leaves the facility. Retrofitting takes advantage of the latest technological advancements. Retrofitting has the lowest overall effective cost and you can choose a capital budget or a maintenance budget.
Now that sounds like the smart choice.
All brands MCC retrofitted. Several of these C-H, F-10 units with a complicated device panel were retrofitted for a large auto manufacturer.
